Avian enthusiast Don Chalfant has led bird walks with the public during the winter months for 12 years and will discuss this year’s new program held on the Marine Discovery Center campus during the May monthly lecture.

A seasonal resident from Michigan, Chalfant will showcase birds observed during this year’s abbreviated winter bird walks at MDC during an online presentation set for Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Before activities were suspended earlier this year due to virus precautions, Chalfant led five walks on the MDC campus during the winter/spring months. During that time, he and his guests observed 45 different species of birds.

Chalfant has led the popular Tuesday bird walks at Indian River Lagoon Preserve Park for a dozen years and during those 157 walks, he and fellow bird enthusiasts have documented seeing 132 species.

Interested guests may register online for this presentation. The program is free but donations are always appreciated.
