Comedy for a Cause

MDC’s Executive Director, Chad Truxall, reflects on the idea behind our upcoming fundraiser, Comedy for a Cause: Roads Less Travelled

Why Comedy for a Cause?

Because it’s great to laugh and reflect on our own lives through the storytelling of others, but the real reason has a lot more to do with a strong brother-and-sister bond and a sense of caring.

The story:Roads less Travelled

Several months ago I was approached by one of our volunteers, Megan. She offered  a unique proposal.

Megan had received a letter in the mail from me about our scholarship campaign.  The campaign helps provide families with financial assistance to attend MDC camp and field trips and Megan was very interested in helping.

Shortly after receiving the letter, Megan was talking to her brother, Alan, about her adventures at the Marine Discovery Center. She and her husband had recently moved to New Smyrna Beach and Megan had learned about our many programs while volunteering at MDC.  It didn’t take long before Alan came up with the idea of doing a benefit performance for MDC while visiting his sister in September.  The three of us communicated several times via email and Skype and the date was set!

Come out and laugh with us on Friday, Sept 4th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. as international comedian, Alan Drop, presents “Roads Less Traveled – A Funny, Thoughtful and Provocative Romp Through An Unusual Life.”

Tickets can also be purchased at the door, the night of the performance.
