It’s sea turtle nesting season in Florida and August’s monthly lecture topic at the Marine Discovery Center will focus on the busy mother turtles laying eggs on Florida’s east-coast beaches.

Laura Henning, chief of interpretation & visitor services at Canaveral National Seashore, along with Becki O’Keefe, sea turtle habitat conservation plan field manager for Volusia County, will co-present the August lecture.

Henning and O’Keefe will provide an update on the 2017 nesting season and discuss the different species of sea turtles that are nesting here.

They also will help local citizens better understand the effects of lighting on sea turtle nesting and the importance of minimizing night-time lighting on beaches where nesting is taking place.

The lecture is open to the public at no charge and no reservations are required.

For more information about the lecture, contact the Marine Discovery Center at 386-428-4828.
