Test Camp Scholarship

Dear MDC Friends and Family,

The Children’s Discovery Scholarship Fund was created on behalf of a very special young man, Aaron Klothe. Aaron attended several of our camps over a decade ago. It was apparent to us that he possessed a strong affinity for water recreational activities and the study of Marine Science. His big smile and warm heart was infectious to all around him.

Almost nine years ago Aaron passed away in an accident. This unfortunate incident united a
community to help give back in support of their dear friend Aaron. In 2005, Aaron’s mother,
Toni Klothe developed a scholarship fund in honor of her son’s passion for wildlife and outdoor
recreation. The program was developed to provide financial assistance for disadvantaged youth
to participate in hands-on, feet-wet Marine Science programs at the Marine Discovery Center.
The Children’s Discovery Scholarship Fund has and will continue to encourage children to
immerse themselves in nature-based educational programs so that they can experience the joy
that Aaron felt while on the water.

Through the Children’s Discovery Scholarship Fund we provide camp and field trip scholarships
for children and K-12 schools that could not otherwise afford to attend. These scholarships offer
disadvantaged youth with an opportunity to experience the water for the first time while cruising on a boat, SCUBA diving at Blue Springs or kayaking along the Indian River Lagoon. It is our hope that through Aaron’s legacy, these scholarships will create priceless smiles and memories that will last a lifetime.

We would like to provide more scholarship opportunities for disadvantaged youth by raising $10,000 for The Children’s Discovery Scholarship Fund. These funds will go directly to either Camp Scholarships or K-12 Field Trip Scholarships. For $20, a child can experience a field trip to the Marine Discovery Center. For $600 the whole class can come! For $200, a child can experience five days of our hands-on, feet-wet adventure camps. These experiences will provide opportunities for children to foster a love and understanding of the environment – a way of ensuring that future generations will protect and cherish our unique marine habitats.

Please help us reach our goal of $10,000 by making a contribution to the Children’s Discovery Scholarship Fund. If you would like to speak with me directly about this opportunity, please call me at (386) 679-3622.
