Share your Shells

photo Oyster season is in full swing, and that means plenty of folks are chowing down on these tasty mollusks. Not sure what to do with your leftover shells? Recycle them at the Marine Discovery Center!

The next time you have an oyster roast, save your shells and bring them to the back parking lot at the MDC. This is an easy way to get involved with the “Shuck and Share” Oyster Recycling Project.

Your shells may be deposited into the black oyster can located adjacent to the kayak launch. These discarded shells will then be used to construct oyster mats and oyster bags, which will be returned into the lagoon to encourage growth of new oysters. Help us keep oyster shells out of the landfill and recycle this ecologically valuable material back into the environment!
