MDC April Lecture Focuses On Community Sustainability

“It’s Not Easy Being Green — Or Is It?” is the topic of the April monthly lecture at The Marine Discovery Center.

The April lecture will focus on efforts to become a more sustainable community with specific emphasis on single-use plastics and solutions to reduce their impact. Katrina Locke of Green Volusia and Marine Discovery Center Executive Director Chad Truxall will be the featured speakers.

when: The lecture will be held Thursday, April 20, starting at 6 p.m.

where: The Marine Discovery Center, located at 520 Barracuda Boulevard in New Smyrna Beach

Locke and Truxall will provide a brief overview of Volusia County’s green/sustainability programs and discuss what sustainability means in a community.

They also will discuss ocean plastic and plastic bags, and trace the journey of plastic bags — starting with where they are made, materials used, where they end up and recycling these bags.

Locke and Truxall will also discuss reusable bag materials and options.

The lecture is open to the public at no charge. No reservations are required.
