Feb. 2017 Lecture, Winter Birding in Central Florida

Feb 8th, 2017 | Category: Announcements, Education, Lecture Series, MDC News

The topic of February’s monthly lecture at the Marine Discovery Center will be “Winter Birding In Central Florida.”

Florida residents get to enjoy a variety of migratory species as many birds spend the winter here in an area known as the Atlantic Flyway.

Michigan “snowbird” Don Chalfant, who leads weekly winter bird walks at the Indian River Lagoon Preserve Park in New Smyrna Beach, will present photos of many of the bird species he has observed in Central Florida during the winter months and will discuss what birders need to know about what species they are seeing.

Before his retirement more than 20 years ago, Chalfant was an elementary school teacher in Michigan. In retirement, he is an avid and active birder and leads birding groups each week as a volunteer at the Marine Discovery Center.

When: February 16, 6 p.m.
Where: Marine Discovery Center, Lecture Room
Cost: FREE

The lecture is open to the public at no charge. No reservations are required.
