Job Description

To oversee the implementation of Project H2O. Project H2O is a multi-institutional initiative to promote healthy habitat through outreach to citizens in Volusia County. This project will focus on the Northern IRL and surrounding estuarine water bodies. This includes efforts through education, citizen science, habitat restoration, reduction of nutrient inputs, and research. The position is grant funded through September 30, 2017 and includes the following goals and objectives:

MDC Launches Protect Our Lagoon Academy in February

The program is an offshoot of MDC’s Project H2O, designed to promote healthy habitat through outreach, and will focus on various concerns faced by the Indian River Lagoon, ranging from wildlife and habitats to legislation and advocacy.

Academy organizers hope the program will help produce citizen-ambassadors for the lagoon who can advocate on behalf of the estuary’s health with government officials, organizations and local residents.

Watch out for migrating manatees!

With the onset of the manatee migration, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reminds people in boats and personal watercraft to slow down to avoid manatees, particularly in shallow areas. Many seasonal manatee protection zones also go into effect as of Nov. 15.
