Marine Discovery Center Summer Adventures 2016 Explore Your Water!

Summer camps at Marine Discovery Center are designed for children to experience the water through our hands-on, feet-wet programs.  All of our summer camp programs will include island exploration, science experiments, marine-related arts and crafts, fishing, shoreline studies in our salt marsh, Field Day Fun Friday, and a photo show of your child’s week at camp!  Each camp will offer a graduated experience that makes the camp unique and gives children something to look forward to each year.

Loggerheads

Ages: 4 – 8
Price: $200
Max # of campers: 20
This camp is designed to introduce younger campers to the Indian River Lagoon through a variety of hands-on, feet-wet activities. This camp will take a field trip on our 40-passenger pontoon boat to tour the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and the Marine Science Center.

Leatherbacks

Ages:  7 – 10
Price: $215

This camp is designed to expand children’s knowledge of the Indian River Lagoon and coastal waters. They will participate in a variety of hands-on, feet-wet activities. Campers will take a field trip to Canaveral National Seashore.

Mangrove Maniacs

Ages: 9 – 12
Price: $225
Max # of campers: 24
In this original MDC Camp, children will engage in a variety of activities to develop their scientific knowledge of the Indian River Lagoon and coastal waters. This camp will fully immerse your child into marine biology through participation in various citizen-science programs. Campers will spend one day of camp at Indian River Lagoon Preserve Park.

Guy Harvey Fishing Camp

Ages: 10 – 14
Price: $230
Max # of Campers: 16
Students in this camp will learn about different fishing gear, bait, various fishing knots, and fish identification. The practice of ethical angling will be taught and practiced throughout the camp. Campers will also participate in archery and kayaking during this camp. Campers will spend one day of camp at Indian River Lagoon Preserve Park. All equipment is provided.

Lagoonys

Ages: 10 – 14
Price: $315
Max # of Campers: 24
This camp will focus on snorkeling as a way to explore the Indian River Lagoon and Florida’s coastal waters. Students will snorkel in several different areas of the lagoon to learn about the marine life in their natural habitats. Campers will also take a field trip to Crystal River to learn about the habitats of Florida’s west coast.

Aquatic Adventures

Ages: 10 – 14
Price: $315
Max # of campers: 20
Campers will explore the Indian River Lagoon and Florida’s coastal waters through various aquatic activities. Marine Discovery Center partners with other community organizations to introduce campers to surfing, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing.  All   equipment is provided.

SCUBA Camp

Ages: 10 – 16
Price: $315
Max # of campers: 16
This camp is designed for campers who are experienced snorkelers. The Marine Discovery Center partners with Sea Dogs Dive Center in New Smyrna Beach to introduce campers to SCUBA diving.  This is a Discover SCUBA program through PADI, not a certification course. There will be a pool dive and a dive at Blue Springs State Park.  (Additional health information is required for this camp.)
