The Marine Discovery Center is proud to be a partner of the Mosquito Lagoon Marine Enhancement Center (MLMEC).

The MLMEC is part of the Marine Fisheries Enhancement Initiative, a program under the supervision of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, is a public-private partnership created to ensure that the exceptional recreational fishing opportunities that have earned Florida its place as the fishing capital of the world remain available.

Our habitat enhancement goals include:

• Shoreline restoration

Our stock enhancement goals include:

• Production, growth, and release of red drum
• Production, growth, and release of spotted sea trout

Our outreach/education goals include:

• Providing tours to site visitors
• Working with Local and County government to provide eco-tourist opportunities to visitors and residents
• Working with Local Schools and Non-Governmental Organizations to educate children about the importance of Florida’s marine ecosystem
