Plastic bags, balloons, cigarette lighters, toothbrushes, bottle caps … We’ve seen firsthand what it looks like when a seabird, or a sea turtle, eats plastic by mistake. Plastic doesn’t belong in the ocean, and they certainly don’t belong in majestic animals like sea turtles, dolphins & sea birds .

The 2015 International Coastal Cleanup will be held on September 19, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Registration will open August 1, 2015 and close prior to the event, September 4th.

Each September, volunteers around the WORLD work together to clean beaches, rivers and other waterways. Volunteers document every piece of trash they find on standardized trash tally data cards, which will be provided to you. This information is used by the Ocean Conservancy to produce the world’s only state-by-state, country-by-country Marine Debris Index. By understanding sources of marine debris, we can work together to solve this problem. Please be prepared to work as a team and have a person designated to write down the amount and type of trash you pick up as you remove it from the coast! Data cards and writing utensils will be provided!
