VOLUNTEER
WITH MARINE DISCOVERY CENTER
The
Mission of the Marine Discovery Center is to protect, restore and preserve
the Indian River Lagoon by increasing public awareness of and respect
for this richly complex ecosystem. We achieve this mission through a
variety of guided tours on our 36-passenger pontoon boat, kayaks and
seasonal day camps. We also have exciting “hands-on, feet-wet”
experiences for our young people by way of our summer and spring day
camps and year round school field trips. None of this would be possible
without the support of the numerous volunteers who dedicate their enthusiasm
and hard work to our mission. Volunteer opportunities abound:
Front
Desk Volunteers
Join our team of “Meet & Greet” volunteers who provide
information and take bookings for our Pontoon Boat Ecotours, Guided
Kayak Ecotours, Water Taxi schedules and special programs. Must enjoy
working with the general public, only basic computer skills needed.
Job shadowing and training provided. Volunteers commit to 4-hour shifts
one day per week. Office is open 7 days a week.
Marketing

With only a small number of full time employees, we always need help
to get the word out about our services. Volunteers help by distributing
our brochures to local businesses, condominiums, etc. We will provide
a list of locations and materials. Schedule this for a few hours a week
at your convenience
• Special Events: Help represent Marine Discovery Center at various
local special events. Orientation and all marketing materials provided.
Volunteers
for Fundraising Events include:
• Estuary Day - Usually the last Saturday in September. Volunteers
needed to assist with all of the activities. One-day event, 4-hour volunteer
shifts.
• Beer Tastival - Indoor tailgate party during football play-off
weekend. A half-day event (usually 2nd weekend in January.) Volunteers
needed for numerous activities.
• Boston Whaler Raffle tickets sales -

education you will enjoy volunteering with our Education department.
