The
Marine Discovery Center
“The MDC mission is to protect and restore the
Florida Coastal Ecosystems through education, research and community
stewardship.”
VISION
AND GOAL: The long range vision of the Marine Discovery Center is to
see a healthy Indian
River Lagoon Estuary (IRL) and the ecosystem it supports preserved
and enjoyed for its natural beauty, unmatched diversity of species and
rich fishery for generations to come. Initiatives and activities designed
to achieve this vision include providing education, research, restoration
and heightened public awareness of this wondrous, fragile natural resource.
In order to preserve the IRL for the enjoyment of future generations,
a goal of the Marine Discovery Center is to showcase the biodiversity
of this treasured natural resource and to examine, research and encourage
human interaction “ON THE WATER” with the estuary.

Education
The Marine Discovery Center’s “hands-on, feet-wet”
educational programs for children and adults raise awareness about
the critical importance of Florida’s coastal ecosystems
with a special focus on the Indian River Lagoon.

Ecotours
The Marine Discovery Center’s ecotours provide a close-up
view of the Indian River Lagoon and its natural history while
on our pontoon boat and guided kayak tours. Our experienced narrators
are certified Florida
Master Naturalists.

Research
The
Marine Discovery Center focuses on research and stewardship projects
that promote conservation and restoration of marine and estuarine
ecosystems. As part of this effort, we build partnerships with
marine science organizations and universities that share similar
goals.

Marine Discovery Center Kayak Rental Program
The Marine
Discovery Center (MDC), a nonprofit environmental education organization
dedicated to stewardship of Florida’s Atlantic coastal waters,
especially the Indian River Lagoon, now offers kayak rentals. The kayak
rental program is operated in conjunction with the MDC kayak and pontoon
